Your Pie!

We have been getting a lot of project time and are getting a lot of it knocked out of the way!  We worked a good bit on it this morning, hopefully we will help get a good backbone for this project by the time we leave! At 11:45 we met up with Kris to go to a meeting with the owner of a delicious place called your pie.  He used to work at the O' house and he had a dream to open up a quick spot for either subs, burritos, or pizzas and he chose pizzas.  It is like a subway....you pick your dough choice, sauce, add as many vegetables and other toppings as you want then it is thrown into the oven and done in a few minutes.  The quality of the pizza is sooooo good, they are 10 inch pizzas and you can get as many toppings as you want.  We asked him how he controlled the quantity people put on the pizza and he told us that less is more.  This is exactly what he tells his customers, with less ingredients you can taste more.  He was truly an inspiration because he had a dream and he did it.  There are now your pie's in 4 states and I believe there are 15 stores.  When we asked how he chose franchisees, he told us it is based on personality.  You can teach someone how to make pizza, you cannot teach them how to interact with people.  It was a really good eye opener because that is so true, and the bottom line comes down to customer satisfaction.

The rest of the day was spent with the RD, Katherine.  I went with her to a grocery store tour with Katherine for one of her students.  It was quite interesting because when you think of grocery store where would you shop?  If you said the perimeter of the store then good job!  She had a lot of good pointers as far as choosing produce and whole grains.  Katherine asked a lot of FAQ's I am sure many consumers have which was good, but I am happy I was not in her shoes!  She did a really good job answering them though!  It is amazing the mis-information that so many consumers have, all of the fad diets, and information that is just not true.  A day well spent!
