We were able to work on our banquet project this morning.  We have come a long way; as long as everything flies with Shelly and Janet then we are ready to start creating decorations!  It's going to be one for the books if I do say so myself.  After spending the morning on our own, we interviewed Jeanne who is the director of operations, second in command.  She had a great advice for us about becoming an all-star manager, here are some to name a few:
  1. Always examine your motives
  2. Hit delete instead of repsonding in anger/If you're angry, unsure, or in doubt sleep on it
  3. Invest in training-the dividends will far exceed costs
  4. If you have the same problem more than twice you haven't found the real problem
  5. Share you're ideas, plans, and expectation-you coworkers can't read your mind
  6. Strive for excellence rather than perfection/Be organized but not obsessive
  7. Value your most important asset- your employee
Those are all good pieces of advice when working within food service.

After our interview with her, we attended a construction meeting with her and Mr. Floyd (executive director) for the rennovation of the O-house dining commons.  The new building is going to be state of the art!  There are so many options for the students including a coffee bar and the employees have ample space in the back of the house.  We listened to the break down of each week to come to make sure they stay on track to open the dining common before the start of this coming fall semester.  Jeanne is a fun and spunky lady, someone I would not mind working under! 

Tomorrow we head to St. Simons Island for a tour of King and Prince.  We will have you updated on Friday upon arrival!
